Asteroid Mining

TashaDavis

This year in Conceptual Physics, my class started off the year by learning about Outer Space. Eventually my teacher decided to test our knowledge of the things he had been teaching. He split us up into groups, and each group was instructed to create a PowerPoint on one of the twelve topics that we had been learning over the first part of the year. My partner and I had to do enough research to explain in detail to the class what Asteroid Mining was. In this project I grew the most in learning to overcome a disability that I have. While doing research for our project, there came a point where I could not remember the word that I had just read when I moved onto the next one. It was like someone had whited out all the words on the page except for some of the most useless ones.

At the beginning of this project, my teacher decided to test our knowledge of the things he had been teaching. He split us up into groups, and each group was instructed to create a PowerPoint on one of the twelve topics that we had been learning over the first part of the year. My partner and I had to do enough research to explain in detail to the class what Asteroid Mining was. We visited several websites about asteroid mining including what NASA had to say about it, and what some prospecting companies were looking into.

While doing the research for this project, the came a moment where suddenly I couldn’t read anything. I could still see but I could not soak in what the webpage was trying to tell me. My partner and I were beginning to get a little pressed for time so I knew I had to think of a way to change the way I saw the text to make it easier to read. When I am overloaded with information, no matter how easy the work/reading really is, my brain will shut down. I remembered that sometimes the only way I could read something when this happened was highlighting it line by line, so I used this to my advantage. All I had to do was make it so I only had to focus on a smaller amount of text. I copied the text I was trying to read off of the page and put it into a word document. Then I went and took a bit of time to highlight each sentence a color different than the one next to it. In the end, I was able to read the document and find the information I was looking for.

In the future if I find myself in the situation where I simply cannot read what is in front of me, I will break it down into smaller parts. This way I can read a large amount of text without becoming overwhelmed. In the future I hope to be able to just change the amount of spacing between the paragraphs, but for now I will do what I have to in order to get my work done.
