Kanamdiscope

TashaDavis

In Math Class we, as in my class, had just started learning about reflection symmetry and lines of symmetry. During this project, we needed to make 3 drafts and then the final. Each draft was approximately 4 in. x 4 in. First we picked a one to two word phrase such as a name or statement. Most people choose their first name. I choose “Still Alive” as my phrase because I'm not going to let the world taunt me. I'm “Still Alive” and am going to keep on rolling!

My biggest challenge was not having enough time. I was ill when my class started this project so I was not there. I was given a bit longer than everyone else to finish but I had a lot of other classes to catch up on too. Then there was the problem that I didn't have the proper coloring utensils that I needed.

During every Advisory and Study Hall I went to Math Class and worked on it. I stopped reading and drawing/doodling so much, and I didn’t get on the computer when I got home. I would work on drawing my Kanamdiscope drafts so I could color them during school. I did what I could with the tools I had and used the other tools I needed during my short “tool grace period” during intermission in the middle of the school day.

One of the best things I learned during this experience was how to create a Kanamdiscope. You see, in several of the projects that I’ve done throughout my life, I already knew how to do them or had done ones like them before for different purposes. I also learned how to use a mira which can help place a mirrored version of an object on a piece of paper.

It’s a new art form. I love drawing, and using a mira can teach my hand to draw the specific curves I want to be able to draw freehanded. There are other things like animation that a mira can be useful for. This can be useful for animation because you would be able to take a bunch of different body parts and draw them altogether doing things and then film it.

I used communication here because when the class started this project, I was ill at home. Because of that, when I got back there was a lot of things that I didn’t know or understand. I had to ask the teacher and classmates for suggestions of what I should choose as my color scheme. I think that communication is to exchange information with other people in an efficient and clam manner despite an apparent lack of time.
